Today, Pat took off to Albuquerque to pick up Margot, an Austrian woman who has lived in the United States for about twenty years. Stefan and I took a hike! Pat told us about a cool pueblito, a little farther than the two that we've already been to. She gave us the general directions, and then gave us a GPS reading of the general area. First we came to these really cool rocks that she told us about. The pueblito wasn't supposed to be too far from there, but we never did find it. We looked all over, and then found ourselves on the wrong side of a set of cliffs. We tried going around them, but to no avail. We finally decided to give it up, and go home. Although we were both disappointed about not finding it, we both needed water and watermelon and a rest! We were gone five hours, and it was five hours in the hot sun . . . except for some shady rest spots.
Not too long after we got home, a terrible (or cool . . . depending on how you look at it!) storm erupted, and the rain was harder than I have ever seen it here. It rained so hard that the greenhouse overflowed rain water into my room. There were also several other places in the house where we had to close the windows or doors to keep the water out. We have had many storms here, but nothing like this. Then a fire alarm went off. No fire . . . I think rain water had gotten into its wiring. We couldn't get it to stop, so we went into the kitchen. Meanwhile, Stefan had already called Pat to tell her not to try to get home because of all the water. She wouldn't have made it past all the washes that would be filled with water. Stefan taught me German pinocle, and by the time we went to sleep, the fire alarm had stopped. Kind of. It came on a couple more times, including after we were already in our rooms. I just hoped that it was done for the night, and it was. What a storm!
