Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6, 2008

I rode Toby the donkey today.  We were working on neck reining and teaching him to go the right direction when he is asked.  Sometimes he did great.  Sometimes he went the opposite direction I wanted him to go.  Sometimes he wouldn't go at all!  I guess that's just the donkey mentality.

Saturday
Margo and I had to work on Toby's hooves today.  He still has thrush.  First, we had to soak his hooves in water to loosen the dirt.  You should have seen us trying to get his feet into these little containers filled with water.  We did one foot at a time.  He didn't enjoy the attention, and did not want to raise his feet for us to work on them.  After they soaked, we cleaned them out with a hoof pick.  Then we applied the thrush medicine.  It took us quite awhile to finish, because he really didn't want to cooperate.  But, we finally got them all done.

Connie and Frank came over today for lunch.  Who are Connie and Frank?  They're strangers.  They were driving by and stopped to ask directions.  They couldn't figure out how to open the gate, so they were climbing over the fence when Pat saw them.  They asked directions, and Pat invited them to lunch!  They were very nice.  Frank was a retired pediatrician from Farmington, and Connie used to be a medical office manager.  She is currently writing a book on quilting in the area . . . that's why they were driving by.  It was interesting having guests!

Solomon is the dark donkey alone.  Toby is the taller donkey, and Zekey is the one who we were afraid was going to die the other day.  But, he's fine now.
